Maintenance

To maintain the splendor of the CrystalRail, there are two simple maintenance points to address.

Over time, abrasions can take a toll on the appearance of the handrail. Hand jewelry is the main contributor to this issue. Fortunately, the outer surface of the handrail rod can be renewed. Our handrail polish will remove most all scratches. Detailed directions are listed below.

The other maintenance point is the replacement of the LED Light Emitters, should the lights reach their lifespan of approximately 50,000 hours. Details of the the replacement directions are listed below.

  • Scratch Removal
  • LED Replacement

Performing this service, is similar to waxing a vehicle. A rag and our Handrail Cleaner is all you need.

  1. For removing deeper scratches in the Handrail Rod, use the #1 Cleaner.
  2. Place a small amount of #1 Cleaner on a cotton cloth, and rub it on the area of the handrail containing the scratch(s).
  3. Apply more #1 Cleaner to the cloth, if necessary.
  4. When the scratch is removed, you must follow up with an application of #2 Cleaner, which removes fine scratches or other minor blemishes.
  5. It is a good idea to apply #2 Cleaner to the entire handrail (excluding the aluminum emitters and couplings) for the same reasons you would not wax just half your car. The handrail will not have a consistent look.

To replace the light source, you will need to purchase replacement LED's. Once you have received your replacement(s), you are ready to make the repair.

  1. Turn the power off to the handrail from the control box.
  2. Unscrew the lower plate of the wire connection box, located at the base of the handrail bracket.
  3. Disconnect the wires going to the Light Emitter.
  4. Remove the top cover of the Light Emitter by unscrewing the 4 bolts on the underside of the Light Emitter.
  5. Attach the replacement Light Emitter and tighten the 4 bolts located on the underside of the Light Emitter (note: feed the wires down the handrail bracket prior to attaching the upper portion of the Light Emitter)
  6. Reattach the wires in the wire connection box, located at the base of the handrail bracket.
  7. If additional Light Emitters require replacing, complete those prior to turning the power back on.
